Dunderry 1-14 Cortown 0-7
Dunderry saw off neighbours Cortown in the opening round of the Meath Junior C football championship at Kilmainham.
Dunderry opened the scoring in the 4th min with a superb point from Jamie Leavy but Cortown replied with two of their own. Bob Doherty was causing Cortown all sorts of problems. The full forward levelled the game with a fine point and then after a fast flowing move Leavy smashed his shot off the crossbar but Doherty was alert to the rebound and found the net.
Gary Clarke was punishing Cortown when they gave away any free's inside 30 mtrs and put over 2 fine points. Kevin Bruton got the score of the game when he fielded a long cross field ball in the 20th min beat 2 markers and from a tight angle put over a point.
Dunderry kept the scoreboard ticking over with points from Dec Mahon in the 22nd and 29th mins, Clarke with 2 free's in the 23rd and 26th mins and a fine point from a long range free from Liam Dempsey off his left foot in the 24th min leaving the half time score 1-10 to 0-4 to Dunderry.
Cortown hit the first two scores of the second half but Dunderry were not to be denied victory. Chris Fitzgerald and Dohery added to their teams tally. Doherty completed the scoring on the 56th minute to ensure a victory for Gary Newman's charges.
