Dunderry 0-18 Ballinlough 2-6
Dunderry maintained their unbeaten home record on Sunday morning with a convincing win over Ballinlough.
Kevin Dowds team needed a confidence boosting win and they got it. After the disappointment in Pilltown in the last round of the league, a win was needed. Dunderry welcomed back county men Luke Martyn & Paddy Kennelly to the side, with a rejigged lineup. Dunderry opened the scoring with 2 points from Luke Martyn in the 1st and 5th minutes while the visitors replied in the 6th min with a point.
Then in a 5 minute spell Dunderry scored 4 points from Stephen Coogan, Liam Dempsey, Conor O'Shea and Conor Farrell. Dempsey's being the score of the match involving 5 players moving the ball quickly from one end of the pitch to the other. Again the visitors replied this time a goal but the home side responded with Coogan scoring 5 points 3 from free's to put them 0-11 to 1-2 up at half time.
Ballinlough came out strong in the 2nd half reducing the lead to 3 points, but Coogan was on form and scored another free in the 40th min followed by a fine point from Mark Kane.
Dunderry could have been further ahead but for 2 fine saves from the visiting keeper. Paddy Kennelly, returning from injury & county duty, started at centre back and was moved into full forward soon after half time. This move paid off in style, as Kennelly scored 3 points 2 of which were from acute angles followed by another Coogan point. The versatility offered by changing Kennelly, Farrell and Martyn gives Dunderry a host of options.
Both teams were reduced down to 14 players during a tetchy 10 minute period in the second half. Ballinlough got a second scrappy goal in the dying seconds to leave the full time score 0-18 to 2-6 to the home side.
A good win, against a disappointing Ballinlough side. Tougher games lie in store for this team in the league. The result leaves Dunderry with 6 points from 5 games, leaving them in 7th place, but still only 2 points off first place.
All to play for.
