On Monday night last, our Junior hurlers took on Kiltale in their opening game in the J2HC. On a perfect evening for hurling we sent a healthy mix of youth and experience to the field to take on a Kiltale team of similar standing.
Dunderry started the brighter and had tagged 5 points on the board in the opening 10 minutes before Kiltale got firing. There were some fantastic scores from both sides in the opening half and a goal soon came for Kiltale for them to take the lead. Dundeery dug deep though and with some excellent defending, kept Kiltale's attacks to a minimum. The second half saw a lot of the same and Kiltale kept their advantage for the vast majority of the half. Dunderry then turned the screw in the last 10 minutes and with 3 quickfire goals (2 from the returning Gilko and 1 from Adam Kelly) and more dogged defending from Davy Stephens and his colleagues in defence keeping the momentum going.
There was a rumour going around that it was our 1st win in a Junior hurling championship for over 10 years but it's hard to imagine it will be our last this year with the panel of players available to debutant gaffer Killian Minogue (dressed extemely well for the occasion it must be said) . It was fantastic to see so much young, promising talent and some not so young veterans take to the field and battle the way they did for the hour and the buzz around the place afterwards was fantastic.
From 1-20 the lads were absolutely fantastic. Next up is Boardsmill at 19:45 on Tuesday 9/7/19 in Boardsmill and the lads need your support so make the time to get along.
